It was a cold, frosty start in Braintree for our 5 young athletes running in the Essex Championships in Saturday.
The U17 women and men all ran together and 61 athletes toed the line at the start of the 5k course, consisted of one small lap followed by the ascent of a very large hill before starting a muddy, long lap.
Joe Geller (above) was the Woodie first home in 17:29, very happy with 2nd place, beaten by just 14 seconds by Orion’s Owen, an upper year runner running of national standard.
Next home was Thomas Adolphus who, with his training partner Videsh Weerakoddy, is enjoying their first cross country season. Both (above) ran well. Thomas came in 19th in 19:21 and Videsh 26th in 20:08.
In the U17 women race Louise Gilbert (above) ran really well for 8th in 21:42, and Siena Taylor (below), in her first year in the U17 category, should be pleased with her placing of 18th in 23:27.
A great performance by all our young athletes who should be praised for the grit and determination on a tough, cold, muddy course.
