Some of Woodford’s seniors were also in action at Chelmsford in the Essex Championships and titles were won by Shayne Dewar, Youcef Zatat, Kitty Eleyae and Sylvia Cruz. There were two Middlesex U/20 titles for Amelia McDonlad, and two Cambridgeshire titles for Kaisei Opara, as well as news from the US.

Shayne Dewar, last year’s U/20 Essex champion, moved into the senior ranks and again won a title. Having comfortably qualified with 22.52 secs (-2.0), he was an impressive winner of the final with 21.54 secs (+2.0) - a season’s best. Youcef Zatat also enjoyed a comfortable victory, in the shot, with 16.76m, whilst amongst the senior women Sylvia Cruz won the javelin with 48.25m and Kitty Eleyae the long jump with 5.61m (+1.4). Peter Clarke picked up a bronze medal with his 3rd in the hammer with 55.10m, ahead of V50 Fergus Harford in 5th with 33.14m. Paul Scanlan just missed out on a medal with 4th in the 400m with 51.11 secs, whilst there was a medal in the Vets 100m for Alan James who placed 3rd with 12.99 secs (-2.6).

At Lee Valley in the Middlesex Championships U/20 Amelia McDonald won both the high jump and long jump with 1.60m and 5.11m (-0.6) respectively, whilst in the senior long jump Adrian Stamp placed 2nd with 6.01m. In the Cambridgeshire Championships Kasei Opara comfortably won both senior sprints taking the 100m with 11.09 secs (-0.9) and the 200m with 22.86 secs (-0.3).

In the US James Stockings placed 5thover 1500m at Lake Charles LA with 4m05.31 secs, a race won by HCA member Matthew Arnold with 3m59.59 secs.
