Death of Martin Nicholson

ImageWe are tremendously saddened to have to report that Life Member and Past President Martin Nicholson passed away suddenly this morning. He was 68 last September. Martin joined WGAC in 1956 and has been a huge supporter of the club and of our sport since then.

For more than twenty years, Martin and his wife Sylvia have sponsored not only our club's teams hugely, but also many athletes on an individual basis. He was the catalyst behind the club's successes over those two decades.

Some of the club's members have known Martin since schooldays. He has been a true friend to many people. Details of the funeral arrangements will be published here when available.

Our thoughts are particularly with Sylvia and their children.

Dan on parade

ImageDan Awde, Woodford's  Olympic competitor in the Decathlon in Beijing, enjoyed his free tour of London from the Mansion House to Trafalgar Square when he took part in the Olympic Heroes parade on October 16th.

Terry McCarthy Life Member

ImageAt the Centenary Dinner and Dance Terry McCarthy received his inscribed Life Membership tankard from President John Hayward. Terry was honoured for his many years as a runner but even more for his dedication to the club as team manager, website contributor and training organiser.

Life Membership for Terry

ImageTerry McCarthy has been honoured for his work as Cross Country Captain and Website manager with Life Membership of the club. These are only Terry's recent activities as he has been in the club many years and filled a number of posts during that time. However, it was mainly for his recent work with the men's cross country team that he was most noted, as Woodford are having its most successful period for many years with the club's best positions in the Southern and National Championships, as well as in the 12 Stage Relays.

All members will wish to congratulate Terry and hope he continues with this fine work.
