With only one young athlete running at the National Championships in Wollaton Park, the final rankings changed little from the penultimate set after the last Met League. Holly McArdell (U13G) was the only mover, picking up the maximum 55 points for her Nationals run and enabling her to leapfrog Wren Jackson to finish in second place ahead of Wren but behind this year's winner, Kai Boggon (U15B).
This year, for first time, no athlete ran in all the qualifying races and there was a marginal drop in the overall number of race outings (90) from previous two years (94) and considerably down on the Trophy's first year (2010/11, when the total was 129). 30 runners completed at least one race this year; with all of these bar two being U13s or U15s, we should expect the totals to increase next year as the U11 feed through to next age group.
The trophy will be awarded at the Young Athlete Winter Awards evening, whch is pencilled in for Tuesday 25th April after training. Well done to all those athletes who took part.
