Sprinters flourish at YDL Upper

WGEL AC hosted round 3 of the YDL Upper on Sunday 30th June. The fixture was poorly attended by all of the 5 clubs involved but Woodford managed to claim 3 place and virtually secure their place in the division for next season.

U20 4x100 relay YDL 3 2019 Winfred and Matthew

U20 4 x 100m: Matthew Adum-Yeboah takes over from Winfred Hakeem

The U/20 Men sprinters were in fine form. Matthew Adum-Yeboah was outstanding in his 100m: 10.92s and a PB, and he ran: 22.03s for a PB headwind of -2.4. Winfred Hakeem ran a wind assisted 100m: 11.15s and 22.70s in the 200m. Videsh Weerakkody completed the middle distance double with: 2m 03.5s in the 800m and 4m 13.68s in the 1500m. Thomas Finch and Charlie Reid went toe to toe in the field events with Thomas: 30m 68cm for a discus PB, 24m 99cm, hammer PB, 7m 77cm in the shot putt and Javelin: 23m 88cm. Charlie threw: 10m 84cm in the shot, 21m 11cm in the discus, 19m 46cm in the hammer and javelin: 10m 89cm. The 4x100m team, who are ranked 6th in the country, this time fielded Winfred, Matthew, Daniel & Roshaun and came home in style in 1st place clocked at 44.4s. The 4x400m (Merveilles, Videsh, Kieran Allgood & Winfred) ran a time of: 3m 42.6s.

Denesha Rocastle in the U/20 women ran 100m: 13.36s, and triple jumped a distance of: 10m 76cm. Temitope Olusesan ran the B string 100m in: 13.71s. Rhianna Buaka's 200m time of: 28.19s was good enough for 3rd, whilst debutant Miriam Nandawula ran: 32.41s, she also ran the 400m in: 77.68s. Wren Mclean-Jackson ran a solid 800m for 1st in: 2m 36.5s. In the hurdles, Amelia Macdonald ran the shorter version 100m in: 15.86s and Millie Finch's 400m hurdles was: 79.33s, she also stepped in to do the javelin: 6m 60cm. Amelia also did the high jump: 1m 50cm to claim 1st place. The throws were very lucrative with Precious Hamilton 2nd in the discus A string: 33m 61cm, and Abigail Allen 1st in the B string: 29m's. The hammer saw 2 firsts with Andreea Golban: 43m 27cm and Abigail Allen: 33m 34cm. Unfortunately the team were DQ'd in the 4x400m. 

Kai Wright June 2019 YDL

 Kai Wright: 2nd in the hammer, discus and shot

Like the U/20 men, the U/17 men's sprinters were also on fire. Tolani Alaba: 10.98s was his 1st sub 11sec's in a legal wind and Sikiru Onigbanjo was also very impressive with a new PB of: 11.13s. He then went on to do the 200m and claim 1st in the A string with another PB: 22.52S, while Merveilles Massembo also took 1st in the B string with a PB: 23.03s, he also did a non-scoring 100m in a time of: 11.23s which was a legal PB time. Tolani, who is a very versatile athlete, did his usual pole vault and claimed a PB height of: 3m 20cm. Cem Guler, competing for the team for the 1st time this season, ran 2 PB''s in the middle distance with times of: 2m 25.30s in the 800m and 5m 02.41 in the 1500m. Kieran Allgood ran the 800m in: 2m 16.70s. Roshaun Edwards ran a non-scoring 100m in: 12.40s. Samuel Oshodi took to the jumps with: 5m 45cm in the long jump, 1m 70cm in the high jump to equal his PB and 12m 47cm in the triple jump. Kai Wright did the equivalent in the throws: 8m's in the shot, 21m 92cm in the discus and 42m 05cm in the hammer. Jake Chambers finished off the throws with: 36m 06cm. The 4x100m relay team, who are also preparing for the relays at the anniversary games, ran a very close and fast race against the Basildon Beagles team to just be edged out into 2nd place with: 42.7s (Aiden, Merveilles, Sikiru & Tolani).

Nicole Alves June 2019 YDL

U17 Nicole Alves: ranked 16th in the UK over 300m

In the U/17 Women's team Nicole Alves, ranked 16th in the UK at this event at the moment, ran a good 300m for 1st place in the A string: 40.91s, while Katherine Mckenzie was 1st B string in a PB: 41.70s. Jessica Adams ran the 800m: 2m 37.1s and Hollie McArdell: 2m 50.9s. Jessica also did the 1500m in: 5m 27.24s. Casey Proctor jumped: 3m 68cm in the long jump. Simbiyat Sikiru threw: 8m 97cm in the shot and was 1st again in the hammer with: 49m 32cm. The small team was able to compete in the 4x300m relay (Katherine, Jessica, Hollie and Nicole) and they came 1st with: 3m 04.4s.
