U17 Men's 4x100m team: A new club record
On Friday 28th June Chelmsford AC hosted the annual track relays, and WGEL collected numerous medals including a phenomenal 4x100m race by the U/17 men's team who collected GOLD and the CLUB RECORD. In the heat they came 1st with: 42.80s and then broke the CR in the final with a time of: 42.46s, which ranks them No.1 in the country, simply outstanding performance, the team (Sikiru Onigbanjo, Tolani Alaba, Joba Ashiru, Merveilles Massembo).
U/15 Girls 4x100m
Coming into this event the U/15 girls 4x100m team (Tiya Canning Lawrence, Zahara Malcolm, Levania Ugonna Mba & Shona Vincent) were full of confidence but in the heat it didn't go quite right and they were thankful to qualify for the final with: 51.39s. However, they turned it around with a much better performance in the final to claim SILVER in: 50.82s.
U/13 Boys 4x100m
The U/13 Boys 4x100m (Kayode Alaba, Gregor Samson, Godwinner Nkebani & Ethan Franklin). The heat was solid and they finished 2nd in: 54.61s, and in the final they ran really well to claim BRONZE in: 54.91s.
U13 Girls 4 x 100m
The U/13 Girls (Isabelle Kyson, Nikita Savier, Benie Massembo & Amana Oguntuga) went one better than the boys. They qualified in 3rd place for heat 1: 55.72s and then ran faster in the final to win SILVER with: 55.57s.
WGEL had one team in the 4x300m race as this was the girls u/15 team (Isabelle Lamptey, Miya Maeda, Kezia Beeton & Zahara Malcolm). They performed really well in what was a fast race, but they dug in and were able to come home in a new CLUB RECORD of: 3m 02.78s and narrowly missed out in a medal with 4th place.
U15 Boys 3 x 800m
In the longer distance races of 3x800m WGEL had 3 teams claiming 1 medal and was very unlucky in being disqualified in another. The U/15 boys team (Jimmy Geller, Danny Raymond & Reuben Fabian) won BRONZE in a very competitive and tough race with: 6m 58.48s.
The u/13 boys (Godwinner Nkebani, Gregor Samson & Oscar Farthing-Barbero) finished 6th in the final with: 7m 56.32s, while the u/13 girls 3x880m team (Isabelle Kyson, Rosemary Kelly & Amana Oguntaga) were obviously very tired from Isabelle & Amana's efforts in the 4x100m earlier and dropped the baton near the finishing line, whilst in 4th place and were subsequently disqualified, very unfortunate. Four of WGEL relay teams now get ready for the Anniversary Games on Sunday 21st July in the Olympic Stadium (U/13 Boys, U/15 Girls, U/17 & U/20 Men's team).
