Charles Stockings: 24/10/1929 - 28/07/2017

We say a fond farewell to Charles Stockings, who passed away on 28th July in hospital in Harlow. At 87 he was one of the oldest members of Woodford Green Athletic Club having been, in his younger years, a good cross country and road runner who also took part in track events.

He was a Life Member and Past President, and served as General Secretary for six years. Apart from running, he took part in many club activities, including the events organised by "The Evergreens", the association of older members of the club.

Charles organised many of The Evergreens' activities, including visits to the Brick Lane Music Hall, games in his garden in High Roding, The "Two Charlies" games evenings (with Charlie Crump), musical entertainment evenings, comedy evenings, lectures, visits, outings and walks.

It is with great sadness that we have to report that Ayo Falola, who had been battling cancer for a number of years, passed away peacefully last night.Ayo competing

Ayo was a Life Member of Woodford Green, a former sprinter, and more recently a coach to a number of successful British athletes.

Our thoughts at this time are with Ayo's wife Sarah and their three sons.

Athletics Weekly reports on the many superb tributes that have been paid to Ayo.

Ayo Falola

As some Club members may be aware, Life Member, Coach and former sprinter, Ayo Falola, who has been battling cancer for several years, has recently been given a terminal prognosis.  Ayo's wife Sarah, and eldest son Oliver are planning a sponsored "shave" to raise money for the Macmillan organisation who do such a wonderful job in supporting cancer sufferers, and are currently providing support to the Falola family.
