WGwEL's women continued their push for an immediate return to the top flight, as they won the second fixture of the UK Women's League Division Two on Sunday at Lee Valley. They scored 218 points to Enfield's 182, and Blackheath's 177.5. They now lead the division with 16 points, from Blackheath on 12 and Enfield on 11. Seven field event victories which were led by a hammer double from Lucy Marshall and Sarah Smith and a triple jump double from Stephanie Aneto and Hannah Frankson, laid the foundations for a solid all round team performance.

In gaining maximum points Lucy Marshall took "A" string hammer victory with 47.88m, and Sarah Smith the "B" with 46.13m. Lucy also placed 2nd in the "B" shot with 10.23m, with Jo Duncan, the "A" with 14.81m. Jo also picked up useful points in placing 5th in the "B" discus whilst Hollie Redman was only just outside her pb with 41.05m for 4th in the "A". Sarah's sister, Emma Smith was 3rd in the javelin with 40.69m with multi-eventer Chloe Galloway 2nd in the "B" with 29.63m, having earlier placed 5th in the 100mH with 16.4 secs. A further field victory came from Ayamba Akim with 1.70m in the high jump, with Kristina Blackett 4th in the "B". There were two 2nd places in the pole vault; Maria Seager in the "A" with 3.60m, and Louise Shortland 3.40m in the "B", The horizontal jumps brought very good points. In the long jump, Kim Murray took victory with 5.90m, with Hannah Frankson 2nd in the "B" with a season's best of 5.43m, before winning the "B" triple Jump with 12.35m, as Stephanie Aneto took the "A" with 12.60m.

On the track, despite the warm weather the athletes had to battle strong winds, and over 100m Azaria Francis placed a close 4th with 12.38 secs(-1.9). The 200m "A" string athletes had to battle a minus 5 mps wind, as Jo Ryan placed 6th with 27.00 secs (-5.0), having earlier placed a good 2nd over 400m with 56.09 secs. The "B" 200m athletes "only" had to contend with a minus 4 wind, as Katie Skelding placed 2nd with 26.03 secs (-4.0), also having earlier run over 400m where she took "B" string victory with 56.58 secs - only just outside of her pb, and a fine effort in the wind. Over 800m Katherine Foy was also only just outside of her pb placing 3rd with 2m14.43 secs, as Zoe Watson gained valuable points with 3rd in the "B" with 2m 23.85 secs. Over 1500m Georgie Lou-Seles was 4th in 4m41.19 secs with Lauren Stewart also 4th in the "B" with 4m53.82 secs. Lauren also placed a fine 2nd over 3000m with 10m19,1 secs as Kat Gunderson took "B" victory with 11m01.2 secs,

Over 400H, Ruth Brereton placed a fine 3rd, recording 60.75 secs, her fastest time for 4 years, with Julie Pratt 2nd in the "B" with 69.7 secs. The 4x100m relay squad placed 5th with 49.28 secs, and the 4x400m team rounded off the meeting with further victory in 3m58.28 secs with another fine run from Ruth Brereton on the anchor leg.
