Club half-marathon best for Wardle in GNR

Dave Wardle broke his own club half-marathon best today in the televised Great North Run as he finished in 65mins 37secs for 18th place overall. Pre-race, Wardle had admitted he was looking to run faster than the 65mins 42secs club-best he set at Reading in 2008, but doubted whether he would crack his PB of 65.15 which he set while representing London Irish.

In today's race, the native Teesider went through 10 miles in 49.20 (64.40 pace) before, in his own words, "dying".

Wardle was 6th British man home after: 11, Dan Robinson 64.14; 12, Lee Merrien 64.27; 14, Ian Hudspith 64.49; 16, Neil Renault 65.30; 17, Kevin Skinner 65.35.
