Early indoor news
A number of WGwEL athletes have been in early indoor season action over the last three weeks. Perhaps the highest quality performances came in the Pole Vault in which, at Bath, Maria Seager cleared 3.96m to win the open competition, and at Loughborough, where Alasdair Strange cleared 4.96m to place 3rd. There were also some encouraging performances elsewhere.
At Cardiff there was an encouraging result for 400m Hurdler Dan Bray. Dan has, for three years, been struggling to recover from a serious knee injury and the resultant surgery, but his 2nd place over 600m with a useful 1m24.76 secs should bode well for further progress. On separate weeks at Lee Valley there were useful 400m performances from juniors Eugene Ayanful, who won in 50.6 secs, and from Paul Scanlan who was 4th in his race with 50.42 secs. Long Jumper Adrian Stamp recorded 7.2 secs to win a 60m race at the same venue, whilst fellow long-jumper Kim Murray recorded 7.96 secs to win at Cardiff.Others in action at Lee Valley were: U/20 Katherine Foy, who recorded 59.81 secs over 400m; Kirsty McIntosh, who cleared 3.30m in the Pole Vault; Hollie Pattie-Bellili with a pb of 9.55secs in the U/17 60H; and Ellie Grace with 8.54 secs in the U/15 60m.
