Daegu World Championships
There was frustration for WGwEL athletes competing in Daegu over the final three days of the Championships. On Friday, competing for Nigeria, Commonwealth Games triple jump champion Tosin Oke, whose season's best of 17.21m was set recently at Crystal Palace, failed to qualify for the triple jump final, recording a best mark of 16.60m (-1.2), compared to the 16.81m achieved by the 12th qualifier. On Saturday, in the final of the women's 100m Hurdles, Tiffany Porter came agonisingly close to a medal, placing 4th in the final with 12.63 secs (+1.1), the third fastest of her career. Tiffany was in 2nd place, seemingly certain to take a medal when she hit the 9th hurdle throwing her off balance and losing momentum and in the end finishied just out of the medals. Earlier in the evening she had won her semi-final in a new British record time of 12.56 secs (+0.7). On Sunday, Tiffany, and Jeanette Kwakye ran the 1st and 4th legs of the GB & NI 4x100m relay team that placed 5th in their heat, and Tim Abeyie ran the 2nd leg for the Ghana team that placed 4th in thier heat
