London Cross Country Championships

The London Cross Country Championships were held at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday. This is not a race our senior teams target, but some of our athletes nonetheless attended. Our best results were secured by Tom Beedell with a very good 7th and Lauren Stewart with 16th.

Results

It was a lovely afternoon for the race - fresh air and firm going such that many athletes chose to use racing flats rather than spikes or studs. In finishing 7th out of 249 finishers in the men's event, Tom Beedell again ended up between Henry Dodwell of Highgate and Hugh Torry of Serpentine, as he had in the Stevenage Met League. He was 1 minute 7 secs outside the bronze medal, won by Thames Valley's Aadan.

M40 Gareth Cavell (57th) will have to cross-check with the Stevenage results to help determine whether his performance was better. M50 Terry McCarthy (146), M50 Paul Stockings (170) and M60 Roger Green (225) also ran.

Having finally shaken off a chest virus, Lauren Stewart made a cautious racing comeback and took a controlled 16th place in the field of 139 finishers. Sidnie Sales (23) started quickly, went backwards, but then held on well to to beat Rachel Lund (29), though the latter was carrying a hangover. M40 Jenny Thomas (83) closed the scoring team which finished 6th, and M40 Alex Wardle (96) also ran.
