South Of England Inter Counties CC, Croydon

5 Woodford athletes represented their County on a sunny but cold day. The going underfoot was firm in most places with a few hills to greet the athletes.

In the Under 13 boys race over 3k, Canaan Soloman found himself in another thrilling finish. Canaan was in a group of 4 that broke away early on and, as he approached the 400 metre run-in, he burst away, taking Kent's Tom Kendrick with him. As the Kent lad had run a 2 mins 12 for 800m, the odds favoured him, but Canaan kicked again just 100 metres out to ensure an excellent victory in 11 mins 16 to Kendrick's 11 mins 18 secs.

Perry Rowan ran strongly throughout in the Essex Under 15 boys 4k to place a good 14th and 2nd Essex runner home, some 53 seconds behind Holden of Surrey, the reigning English Schools Champion for Junior Boys. Perry ran 13 mins 43 secs.

In the Under 13 girls race over 3k Rosie Poole, representing Essex clubs for the first time, had a very good run placing 24th in 13 mins 20 secs, just 40 seconds behind the winner. Rosie was 6th scorer for Essex.

In the Under 15 girls race over 4k, Amelia Barrett placed a good 17th in 15 mins 45 secs and 5th scorer for Essex.

Our final runner was Georgie Lou Sales who ran in the Senior Womens 6k and was rewarded with a fine 13th in 25 mins 48 secs.

"I felt overall our runners did extremely well against the best throughout the South Of England," said John Stow.
