WGEL athletes were in indoor action at the BMC meeting in Sheffield, the England Combined Events Championships at Sheffield, Open Meetings at Windsor and Carsholton and also in the recent Lee Valley Open Meetings.
Yesterday at Lee Valley, Beijing Olympic finalist, Sarah Claxton opened her indoor season over 60mH recording 8.36 secs and, behind her, junior Hollie Pattie-Belleli recorded a personal best of 9.27 secs. Making a return to competition after being out for 3 years following injury, Richard Alleyne placed 3rd in the 60mH with a good 8.02 secs. Other results included Hugh Williams in the U/17 shot with 12.52m and Dan Yaxley over 400m where he recorded 55.45 secs
Getting a break from Cross Country running, Alex Cornwell placed 7th in a good standard BMC "A" race at Sheffield recoding 3m56.44 secs. In the men's "A" 800m new member Matt McLoughlin, a first year junior, was 5th in 1m57.74 secs, whilst in the women's 1500m Emily Moss won the "A" race in 4m35.67secs.
Competing at Sheffield in the England indoor combined events Championships, HCA members Gemma Weetman and Moe Sasegbon were both in action. Gemma won the national title with 3997 points, recording marks of 8.82 secs ( 60mH), 1.68m ( HJ), 11.03m (SP), 5.71m (LJ) and 2m17.34secs (800m). Moe only competed on the first day and recorded 9.57 secs (60mH and 1.74m (HJ).
At Windsor, discus specialists Tom Norman and Devon Douglas were both in action in the shot, and both achieved the same distance of 14.21m. 400m man Sylvester Juwe recorded 7.24 secs over 60m. At Carshalton, Azaria Francis recorded 7.71 secs over 60m, whilst in the men's event Dan Davis recorded 7.12 secs, and also 8.14 secs in the fastest of three 60mH races.
A number of Woodford athletes have competed in the recent series of Open Meetings at Lee Valley, notable performances have included 60m personal bests for Omololu Abiodun with 7.08 secs, Paul Scanlan with 7.11secs and from 15 year old Joseph Dewar with 7.07 secs, and also a 6.60m long jump.
