South of England Indoor Championships Day One
A few WGwEL athletes competed in the first day of the South of England Indoor Championships at Lee Valley on Sunday. Of those who competed, Paul Scanlan was the only medalist as he retained the regional indoor U/20 400m title which he won last season.
Although Paul Scanlan's winning time, of 49.30 secs, was down his own Championship Best of 48.56 secs that he set in 2011, it was nevertheless a good early season performance having already earlier in the day run a heat and semi-final where he clocked 50.24 secs and 49.78 secs respectively. Also making it through to those semi-finals was new member, 800m specialist Matt McLaughlin who recorded 50.75 secs. In the women's U/20 200m Hollie Pattie-Belleli progressed to the final where she placed 6th with 26.45 secs having qualified with 26.19 secs. Over 800m, Katherine Foy placed 5th in a straight final of the senior women's race where she recorded 2m24.30 secs, and in the senior men's event Omar Mansour just missed out on a place in the final having clocked 1m57.61 for second in his heat.
These Championships continue at Lee Valley on both Saturday and Sunday next weekend.
