Angus Holford wins Essex 10k

Angus Holford took his first individual County title on Sunday by winning the Essex 10,000m event held as part of the Combined Events and Graded meeting at Ashton. The race was a close affair for the first half with Angus making the pace for the first 3 laps before Billericay Strider, Crispian Bloomfield took up the pace making. Bloomfield maintained a steady pace just stretching a narrow lead on each back straight with Angus closing up on the clubhouse bend; it continued like this until 10 laps to go when Angus put in a sharp burst to open up a 20 metre lead down the back straight. After this 76 second lap, the pace settled back to between 79 and 82 second laps but Angus’ lead grew on each lap so that by the finish he was 150 metres clear with a winning time of 33m 16s to claim the gold medal.
