Southern Vets C.C. Championships

In the South of England Masters Championships held at Claybury, the WGEL team won silver medals in the M50 category. A team of Matt Flannelly (7th), Dave Cox (11th) and Tony Pamphilon (13th) scored 31 points: 1 point behind champions Crawley and 2 ahead of third-placed South London Harriers. Dave Cox also won a bronze medal in the M55 category. Richard Holland (31), Paul Stockings (68) and Tom Spanyol (76) also ran in the field of 100 finishers.

In the M40 category, a team of Matt Molloy (25), Steve Lambert (49) and Martin Mack (52) finished 7th team.

In the South of England Women’s Inter-Counties Championships held at the same venue, Sarah Bird, running for Suffolk, was an excellent 15th, Georgie-Lou Sales a very good 19th and Kat Gundersen a good 34th in the field of 59. Georgie-Lou Sales was part of the four-woman Essex team which picked up bronze medals.

There were some excellent performances by other WGEL athletes in various races. In the U17 Women Amelia Barrett came 13th., in the U13 girls Isabella Hoy finished 6th., and in the W40 class Linda Jackson came home in 6th. place.
