Indoor Round-Up

WGEL athletes were in action at a number of indoor fixtures over the weekend. Many though had a week off from racing ahead of next weekend's UK Indoor Championships, and Trials for the European Indoor Championships. Best performances were set in the US, by London Olympians Shana Cox and Tiffany Porter.

Racing in Boston over 400m, Shana Cox placed 2nd, marginally improving her season's best to 53.33 secs, which currently ranks her 4th in the UK. Also placing 2nd was Tiffany Porter in her season's debut over 60mH. Her time of 7.99 secs, moves her to the top of the UK rankings ahead of Sarah Claxton. At the Birmingham Games at the NIA, Paul Scanlan placed 3rd in his 400m heat and clocked 49.69 secs, and Zainab Ceesay made a welcome return to competition where she placed 2nd the triple jump with 12.50m. At Loughborough, 400mH specialist Mike Baker raced over 60m and recorded 7.34 secs, whereas at Eton, also over 60m, Jason Greenidge recorded 7.22 secs and 7.14 secs, and Adrian Stamp, 7.20 secs and 7.27 secs.

Lee Valley hosted the U/15 and U/17 London Games. In the U/17 events, Kingsley Annor recorded a personal best in the triple jump with 11.90m and also raced over 400m recording 55.79 secs Edward Yamah raced over 60m, recording 7.39 secs and then a personal best of 7.21 secs. In the U/15 events, Thomas Finch recorded 9.33 secs and 9.53 secs over 60m and 33.33 secs over 200m, and in the girls events Phobe Fuhr recorded 30.35 secs over 200m and also cleared 1.20m in the High Jump.
