Pre-season outdoor Track and Field action got underway in the US and in Spain with the European Winter Throws Competition. Notable early season marks were recorded by Mark Dry and Sam Watts. There was also further outdoor and indoor news.

Representing GB&NI in the European Winter Throws Competition at Castellon, Spain, Mark Dry got the better of regular rival and Olympic representative Alex Smith as he won with a mark of 73.22m. At the TCU invitational in Forth Worth Texas, Sam Watts continued his good indoor form outdoors as he recorded two encouraging, albeit windy marks, over 100m of 10.52 secs w (+2.8), and over 200m, his fastest ever, of 20.64 secs w (+6.9). There was also some news from Australia where Stephanie Gaynor competed in the Queensland Open at Nathan and raced over 100m and 200m, recording 12.94 secs (-0.3) and 26.12 secs (+1.0). The previous weekend at Lee Valley there were some notable performances from the British Masters Indoor Championships. Keith Newton again won the M40 Triple jump with a mark of 12.25m, and Chris Symonds picked up two M35 medals, over 1500m where he won with 4m19.04 secs, and over 3000m where he placed 2nd with 9m11.01 secs.
