Essex Championships -Updated

 

Highlights from the Essex County Championships at Chelmsford over the weekend included a senior sprint double for Omolulu Abiodun. There were further senior titles for Chris Linque and Kitty Eleyae whilst amongst many other good performances, there were two junior titles for Youcef Zatat and one for James Bongart, an U/17 title for Daniel Rowden, an U/15 title for Arran Toppin, an U/15 title for Stephanie Howe and a V35 title for Alan James.  Omolulu Abiodun won over both 100m and 200m with encouraging performances. Over 100m he won in a slightly windy 10.73 secs w (+2.9), from club colleague, Eugene Ayanful who was 2nd with 10.81 secs w (+2.9). The following day Omolulu also won over 200m in 21.87 secs (-0.9), with Eugene 4th in 22.25secs (-0.9), and 400m specialist Paul Scanlan 8th with 22.71 secs (-0.9). On the Saturday Paul had placed 4th over 400m with 50.20 secs. Alan James V35 title came over 100m which he won with 12.03 secs w (+4.3), and he was also 2nd over 300m with 40.26 secs. Another vet doing well was Keith Newton, but in the senior age group where he placed 2nd in the triple jump with12.79m (+1.0)

Youcef Zatat’s first title came in the U/20 shot , with 16.12m, but in the discus he set a personal best, breaking his own WGEL Club Junior Record and set a CBP with 51.15m. Chris Linque won the senior discus title with 46.92m. In the U/20 javelin, James Bongart also won with 51.18m. There were also two silvers in the shot; in the senior event from Devon Douglas with 13.88m and in the U/17 event for Hugh Williams with 12.24m, Devon also picked up silver in the discus with 41.88m, with Hugh reaching 31.60m in the U/17 event. Anaother javelin medal went to David Peddle, 2nd in the U/17 event with 39.51m. In the men's hammer Peter Clarke picked up silver with 53.27m, ahead of veteran Fergus Harford, 4th with 34.23, Peter's younger brother Harry Clarke was 3rd in the U/20 event with 57.77m. Also in fine hammer form was Stephanie Howe, winning the U/15 girls title in a CBP of 47.77m. In the women's discus, Hollie Redman was also in good form placing 2nd but throwing a personal best of 44.32m. Kitty Eleyae’s title came in the women’s long jump which she won with a fine but windy 6.19m w (+3.1), and she also gained a silver over 100m with 12.24 secs w (+3.7). There were further long jump medals, silver in the men’s U/20 event for George Hamilton with 6.66m (w?), bronze in the women's U/17 event for  Ellie Sava with 4.97m w (+3.1) a further bronze in the women’s U/20 event where Bethany Chambers was 3rd with 4.34m, but she went better in the triple jump where placing 2nd with 10.34m

Daniel Rowden’s U/17 title came over 800m; in good form after his recent pb of 1m56.25 in a BMC race at Watford, Daniel again went under1m57 to win the Essex title with 1m56.93 secs. In the U/17 100m, Edward Yamah picked a fine silver medal with 10.93 secs w (+4.2), and in the U/15 event Aaron Toppin went one better as he won with 11.32 secs w (+3.7). Also in the U/17 age group there was a silver for Perry Ronan over 3000m with 9m12.65 secs. Katie Skelding picked up another Essex medal as she placed 2nd over 200m with 25.33 secs, (+0.6), ahead of HCA member Jo Ryan with 25.60 secs (+0.6). Jo had previously won the 400m title with 58.45 secs. Over 5000m Angus Holford placed 5th with 15m47.07 secs. Other performances included Isobel Moss 9th in the U/20 800m with 2m38.05 secs;  Jodi Ratcliff 3rd, and Isobel Hoy 4th in the U/15 800m with times of 2m23.04 secs and 2m26.09 secs; Katie Petyt 8th in the U/15 LJ with 4.47m (+1.1); Paige McArdell 4th U/15 girls HT with 18.01m; in the U/13 girls age group, Nicole Stimpson ran 11.28 secs w (+3.2) in the 75m heats, and in the same age group over 800m Kyesha Robinson recorded 2m33.33 secs, Molly Gardner 2m34.54 secs, Megan Casswell 2m42.89 secs, and Mia Harris 2m50.31 secs. In the U/15 Boys hammer Ryan Beatty threw 26.56m
