Youth Development League match 2

Youngsters from Woodford Green A.C. with Essex Ladies and support from Ilford A.C. contested the second Youth Development League match at Ashton Playing Fields on Saturday. It was a close fought event with the home club finally coming 3rd. with 505 points behind Havering Mayesbrook with 517 and Bedford with 513 out of the 8 competing teams.

Star of the home team was Stephanie Howe who won the girls U15 hammer with a huge 50.83m and also came 3rd in the shot with 7.69m. Stephanie is coached by her father Chris who was for many years a member of the club’s British League team.

There were wins for Aaron Toppin in the Boys U15 100m with 11.9 secs and Pearce Christie in the Boys U15 200m in 24.4 secs. Aaron also won the B 200m. In the Boys U15 age group there were further wins for Canaan Soloman with 2min 5.2 sec in the 800m, Shane Dewar with 1.65m in the high jump and Dominic Langley with 1.50m in the B high jump.
In the Boys U13 age group there were 1st places for Rayne Allen in both the 100m in 13.8 sec and 200m. in 28.3 sec. Rayne also took 3rd. place in the shot with 5.63m.

In the Girls U15 Naomi Browne won the high jump with 1.53m, and also won the B 100m with 13.1 sec. The B 200m was won by Karina Hope-Bruce in 28.1 sec.

There were sterling performances in the 800m with Rosie Poole being narrowly beaten into 2nd place in the A race in 2min. 28.9 sec while Isabella Hoy won the B race in 2min. 31.4 sec. In the 1500m there was a good 3rd. place for Jodie Ratcliffe in 5min. 07.2 sec. Phoebe Fuhr won the pole vault with 2.00m while Katie Petyt came 2nd in the long jump with 4.68m.

The girls U13 collected a clutch of points with Molly Gardner winning the high jump with 1.25m , the shot with 7.05m and gaining 2nd. place in the 150m. with 21.2sec. Kyesha Robinson came 2nd in the 1200m in 4mins 10.2 sec and Megan Caswell took 4th place in the 800m. with 2min. 46.6 sec.

Finally there was a great win for Brandon Shibchurn, Shane Dewar, Pearce Christie and Aaron Toppin in the 4 x 400m sprint relay in 47.4 sec

The final score moved the local team to 4th place on the Southern-North table.
