Other Track and Field news over the weekend included form the English Schools Championships in Birmingham where there were medals for Daniel Rowden and Joseph Dewar, form Belgium where there was a 1500m personal best. for Tom Phillips and from the Paris Diamond League where Tiffany Porter recorded a season's best.
Joseph Dewar's English Schools medal was bronze and came in the senior boys long jump, with 7.10m (0.0). Although below his recent personal best of 7.36m which he set in winning the recent World Schools Championships, it was nevertheless a fine performance from Joseph, whose training has been severely restricted as he recovered from a hamstring injury. In the intermediate boys 800m Daniel Rowden went even better and picked up silver with a personal best of 1m53.72 secs - not far away from Chris Ryenolds 12 year old Club age group record of 1m53.64 secs. Two of the 1500m events saw near misses for Woodford athlets; in the junior boys event, Canan Soloman was 4th with 4m10.81 secs, as was James Stockings in the senior boys race with 3m54.00 secs. Others in action at the English Schools were Edward Yamah, who was 4th in his intermediate boys 100m heat with 11.32 secs, and Muhamed Weyli was 5th in his junior boys 200m heat with 23.66 secs (-1.5).
Competing at the Arena games in Hilversum, Netherlands, Olympic triple jump 7th placer, Tosin Oke was 2nd with 16.60m (+1.1) which leaves the ex-British, Nigerian Champion still to achieve the World Championship qualifying standard. In Oordengem, Tom Phillips raced over 1500m and finished 6th with a new personal best of 3m46.82 secs, whilst at the Dublin Irish Milers Club meetng Pajo Hamiliton recorded 1m53.29 secs over 800m. At Saturday evening's Diamond League fixture in Paris, Tiffany Porter placed 5th in a very competitive field recording a season's best of 12.65 secs (+1.2)
