BUCS Indoor Championships
This weekend saw many WGEL athletes enjoying their final outing of the brief indoor season, representing their Universities in the BUCS Championships at Sheffield. Amongst several good performances there were titles for Jordan Kirby-Polidore and Youcef Zatat and also silver medals for Peter Kirabo and Christian Morton.
Jordan Kirby-Polidore's title came over 200m which he won in a fine time and CBP of 21.04 secs, the third fastest by a UK athlete this season. Fourth in the same final was Omolulu Abiodun who recorded 21.78 secs. Youcef Zatat's title came in the shot, where the first year senior recorded a personal best of 16.10m. Peter Kirabo's silver medal came in the triple jump where he was just shy of his recent personal best with 14.99m, and behind him in fourth was Thalasong Tshiretletso with 14.69m. In the men's 400m Christian Morton just lost out on the line finishing 2nd with 47.52 secs, whilst in the women's race Keishana LaRose was fourth in a season's best of 55.15 secs.
In the women's 1500m final Emily Moss placed 5th with 4m45.48 secs, and in the women's long jump also fifth was Kitty Eleyae with 5.86m. Making it through to semi-finals, were Paul Scanlan in the 800m where he recorded 1m57.15 secs, and Tom Holligan who just missed a spot in the 200m final as he placed second in his semi with 21.92 secs.
HCA athletes in action included Dan Gardner, who again improved his personal best with a fine 5.40m for 2n4, Alex Bell who was fourth in the 400m with 48.82 secs, and Gemma Coe sixth in the 3000m with 10m05.84 secs.
