Sainsbury's British Championships

This weekend saw the Sainsbury's British Championships and European Championship Trials take place at Birmingham where  Woodford performances were led by a national title for Tiffany Porter and medals for Shana Cox and Mark Dry.

Tiffany Porter the bronze medalist from both last season's World Championships and this year's World Indoor Championships comfortably won the 100mH with a time of 12.85 secs (+0.5). Shana Cox finished 2nd in a close women's 400m in 52.51 secs. Mark Dry's medal came in the hammer where in a very good competition where he had three efforts over 73m, he placed 3rd with 73.27m. Andy Frost, last year's Champion was 5th this time with a throw of 70.38. In the women's event HCA member Myra Perkins was 6th with 58.90m. Mark, Andy and Myra will all be representing Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Others doing well in field events were Zainab Ceesay who was 5th in the triple jump with 12.85m; Katie James was 6th in the PV with 3.80m, and Anthony Oshodi and Youcef Zatat who were 6th and 8th respectively in the shot with 16.81 m and 16.40m. Ezekiel Ewolu was 9th in the long jump with 7.23m (+1.4), and Hollie Redman was 11th in the discus with 41.84m. Jack Lochans cleared 2.05m in the high jump. HCA member Dan Gardner cleared 4.95m in the PV.

 

On the track Dan Awde would have been a little disappointed with his 8th place in the 400m final. After qualifying well from his semi-final with 46.16 secs, Dan found himself in the outside lane where in a tight race he recorded 46.64 secs, just 0.32 secs from 3rd. In the sprints Jordan Kirby-Polidore qualified for the 200m final with a 21.27 secs (-0.4) heat, but did not start in the final. In the heats, Omololu Abiodun recorded 21.64 secs (-0.6) and in the 100m heats 10.89 secs (0.0). In the women's 100m Elaine O'Neil progressed to the semis where she recorded 11.98 secs (+1.2) having gone marginally quicker in her heat with 11.97 secs (0.0). In the middle distance events, Jon Cook was closest to making a final with 3m50.89 secs in his 1500m heat. Tom Phillips recorded 3.54.25 secs, and in the 800m Nathan Wake 1m54.95 secs. In the women's 800m heats, Megan Edwards was close to her best ever with 2m07.36 secs. In the 400mH heats, Mike Baker clocked 52.18 secs, and Ewan Dyer a season's best of 52.59 secs. HCA member Jack Lawrie clocked 53.45 secs. In the 3000m s/ch HCA member Ryan McKInlay was below his best with a time of 9m29.92 secs.
