In the days leading up to the BAL match at Lee Valley many Woodford athletes had been in action at various domestic meetings and also abroad.Results included a 1500m personal best for Jon Cook and also 100m personal best for Joseph Dewar.
Jon Cook's 1500m personal best came in a meeting at Ninove, Belgium, where he placed 8th in 3m42.27 secs, improving his best by 0.01 secs. Also racing abroad, in Copenhagen just a few days after the Commonwealth Games had finished was Dan Awde who recorded 46.10 secs over 400m, and in the hammer Scotland Commonwealth Games representative and HCA member Myra Perkins recorded 58.12m. Myra also threw 57.37m at Kessel-Lo, Belgium on Saturday. At Castres in France, Ezekiel Ewulo recorded 7.41m in the long jump.
18 year-old Joseph Dewar competed over 100m in the SoE Junior Inter-Counties Meeting at Copthall. Running into strong headwinds he won his heat with 10.64 secs (-1.9) and then the final with 10.70 secs (-2.2). Last weekend at Lee Valley Joseph improved his long jump season's best to 7.15m in winning the Southern League fixture, and back at Lee Valley last Wednesday he recorded his fastest two times ever over 100m of 10.58 secs (-0.2) and 10.54 secs (-0.8). Also competing at Coptahll in the Inter-Counties fixture were (U/15) Isabella Hoy who was 6th over 1500m with 4m55.23 secs, U/17 Shayne Dewar who equalled his high jump pb of 1.80m to finish 9th=, and U/15 Amy Gilbert who was 5th in the discus with 25.22m.
Several others also raced at the Lee Valley Sprints Meeting last Wednesday. Eugene Ayanful was dq'd in first race and then ran 10.71 secs (-0.2), Omololu Abiodun recorded 10.71 secs (-0.7) and 10.83 secs (-0.2), Jordan Kirby-Polidore 10.78 secs (-0.7), Keira McCook 11.71 secs (-0.1), and also 23.91m (-0.1) over 200m, U/17 Shayne Dewar 11.72 secs (-0.1), U/15 Brandon Schibchun recorded 12.05 secs (-0.1) and a 200m personal best of 24.02 secs (+0.2). Others racing over 200m were HCA member Jo Ryan with 26.02 secs (0.0), V35 Alan James with 25.15 secs (+0.2),U/20 Danielle Alakija with 24.92 secs (-0.5), and Justin Duru a personal best of 22.27 secs (+0.5).
At the Mile End graded meeting, Katie Skelding raced over both 100m and 200m with 12.47 secs (-0.6) and 25.74 secs (+0.7), and in the long jump U/15 Esther Tewogbode recorded 4.02m and also 13.39 secs (-1.4) over 100m and 28..92 secs (-0.8) over 200m. Daniel Tewo, an U/11 recorded 13.96 secs (+0.6). Several other Young Athletes raced over 1500m at the last Watford Graded meeting; Owen Armstrong (U/17) 4m34.34 secs; Jesica Burgess (U/20) 4m52.48 secs; Jodie Ratcliff U/17 5m 01.44 secs; Abie Wickenden (U/11 )5m29.54 secs; Tim Millett (U/13) 5m29.99 secs, Megan Caswell (U/15) 5m41.86 secs, and Bradley Jay (U/11) 5m56.21 secs. Over 3000m senior Tony Russell recorded a season's best of 9m25.5 secs.
