M55s take silver in British RR champs

The same team which last year won the British Masters M55 Road Relay race returned to the scene of their triumph, Sutton Park near Birmingham, on Saturday to defend their title. A year older but just as game, the trio were delighted to come away with silver this year from amongst the 55 clubs which contested the race.

Results

All three - Richard Holland, Dave Cox and Tony Pamphilon (pictured left to right below) - stated pre-race that they were not in the same shape as last year. On leg 1 Holland came in 20th, running 18.40 for the 3 mile leg which compared with 17.32 last year. Cox, who had run 17.00 last year, managed 17.27 this year and overtook 15 men to leave us 5th. Pamphilon, who has a raft of medals gained representing the club on the last leg in British relay championships, overtook 2 men in the first men to move into the bronze position. Then he steadily closed on Wirral AC, who had started leg 3 14 seconds ahead of. And, despite a scare when his calf "went" with 600m to race, he nonetheless went past Wirral to take the silver medals by a mere 5 seconds, running 17.32 (compared with 17.18 in 2014).
