English Schools Medals for Woodford athletes

This year's English Schools Championships were held at Gateshead last weekend. In a reduced format with each of the three days allocated to just one age group the Championships as usual were of a high standard. Woodford performances were led by gold medals for Simbi Sikiru and Danny Raymond.

It was in the senior girls hammer that Simbi Sikiru picked up her gold medal. in a very close competition where just 24 cm covered all medalists Simbi ran out the winner by just 1cm, throwing close to her personal best with 49.81m. Danny Raymond was the other Woodford winner, in the Intermediate Boys 800m where his personal best of 1m53.26 secs saw him win by 2.5 secs with his time moving him to place 2nd currently on this years UK U/17 rankings. In the senior boys 400m after comfortably qualifying from his heat with 49.35 secs, Nabil Tezkratt just lost out in the final as he placed 2nd marginally improving his recent personal best with 47.85 secs. Another to record a personal best was Shona Vincent in the Inter Girls 100m her time of 12.00 secs (+1.0) improved her best by 0.06 secs as she placed 3rd in her final.

Sadly two other Woodford athletes who had been selected to represent Essex, Abigail Reid (Inter Girls 1500m) and Maia Fisher (Junior girls 75mH) were unable to make the trip to Gateshead having been  instructed by their schools to isolate.
