Gold for Sam and Kharina at Southern Indoors

Woodford athletes performed strongly at the South of England U20 and senior championships, led by wins for Sam Khogali and Kharina Partridge.

Sam Khogali was the class of the field in his first South of England championships. The former UK indoor long jump champion had already jumped 7.52m this winter at the Welsh champs and led throughout after an opening 7.23m before underlining the victory with 7.37m in the final round. Lawrence Davis was 9th on his season’s debut with 6.68m. Mary Elcock was the only WGEL female medallist on Saturday, taking the silver medal with her last jump of 5.87m.  New member Yasmin Uwakwe narrowly missed out in 4th in the senior women’s 60m hurdles despite a PB of 8.56s in the final after matching her previous best of 8.67m in the heat. Another finalist was Shona Vincent in the senior flat 60m, placing 7th in 7.64s.

Kharina Partridge won the U20W triple jump thanks to a third round 11.53m PB, holding on to win by 3cm. Ashleigh Simmonds made the final of the U20W 200m thanks to an absolute PB of 26.41s, finishing 5th in the final with 26.64s Just missing out on the senior 400m final, Jasmine Mitchell recorded an indoor best of 57.54, while Kyra White similarly missed out in the 200m with her indoor best of 26.25s.
