Four medals for Woodford at British Champs
Georgie Forde-Wells and Yemi Mary John led Woodford performances at the British Championships held over the weekend where national medals were also won by Kirsty Law and Sean Atafo.
Georgie Forde-Wells the current UK indoor Champion added the outdoor title as she won the triple jump with a leap of 13.53m w (+2.6). Georgie also placed 5th in the Long Jump with a 1cm personal best of 6.42m (+0.9). The women’s 400m was one of the highlights of the weekend as Yemi Mary John the current UK lead and world ranked 11th, took on the former world indoor champion Amber Anning. Drawn in lane 8 which after Keely Hodgkinson (lane 9) dropped out on the start line, Yemi Mary ran blind and although entering the straight with possibly a marginal lead over Anning (lane 5) Anning just edged the title on the line by 0.06 secs with Yemi Mary recording 50.23 secs for silver. Another Woodford athlete to make that 400m final was Rebecca Grieve, 8th with 52.75 secs. There was also a silver medal in the women’s discus for Kirsty Law with 49.71m and a bronze in the triple jump for U/18, Sean Atafo with 15.56m (+0.7).
Others finishing in the top eight were Sam Khogali, 4th in a high standard long jump with 7.74m, Katie Head 5thin the hammer with a season’s best of 60.98m and Jabez Berry also in the hammer with 65.75m for 7th. In the 100m Eugene Amo-Dadzie was 6th with 10.19 secs (+0.5) with Medwin Odamtten just missing out on a final slot after placing 4th in his semi with 10.38 secs.
In the 100m heats Olu Isaac recorded 10.72 secs (-0.3), Benedict Chukueze 10.95 secs (+0.3) and Gwen Datey on her return from injury 11.90 secs (+0.1). U/20, Ethan Franklin was 4th in a very close 200m heat from the inside lane with 21.09 secs and in the women’s 200m Chioma Okonkwo was 5th in her heat with 24.11 secs (-0.3) and also recorded 54.67 secs in her 400m heat. In the 400mH heats Molly Swingler recorded 61.83 secs and Jasmine Mitchell 62.40 secs. Ruben Hedman was 6th in his 100mH heat with 14.72 secs (-1.0) and in the 1500 heat Joel Doye recorded 3m48.23 secs.
HCA member Ethan Akani finished 4th in the 110mH which was later upgraded to 3rd after a DQ with14.09 secs(0.4). Another HCA Ollie Parker made the 400mH final where he was 8th with 51.30 secs and U/20 Sammy Lok was 5th in the LJ with 7.49m (+1.0).
