RIP David Jones
We are very sad to have to report the death of David Jones who passed away on Thursday at the age of 83. David was Woodford's fastest man and one of Britain's leading sprinters in the early 1960's.
In the 1960 Rome Olympics David just missed out on a place in the 100m final and was part of the GB team that gained a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay. In the 1962 Belgrade European Championships David finished 5th in the 200m and gained a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay. That same year in the Perth Commonwealth Games David gained a silver medal over 220 yards and a gold in the 4x110y relay. In 1963 David was a member of the GB 4x110y relay team that set a world record at White City.
David was awarded Life Membership of Woodford Green AC in 1968.
