Woodford athletes battle hard in Battersea Park

Battersea’s Millennium Stadium hosted the 2nd Southern League match of the season. Depleted in numbers but not spirit, the Woodford team finished a creditable 4th overall to leave the club 11th in the League.

There were excellent performances from all athletes, with Devon Douglas winning 2 A and 1 B event and if the club could have been competitive in all events the club would have challenged for top spot.

The day started with the Hammer, with Fergus Harford throwing 36.00m (2nd B) and Devon Douglas throwing 43.42m (1st A). Devon was later to compete in the Shot, throwing 14.29m (1st A) and to follow up with 39.11m (1st B) in the Javelin.

Accompanying Devon in the Shot was Chris Linque, throwing 12.05m (1st B). Chris also competed with Tom Norman in the Discus where he threw 42.00m (1st B) and Tom a  fine 51.40m (1st A). Former decathlete Paul Howard competed in the Pole Vault, vaulting 3m to finish 5th A and was to later to compete in the High Jump, recording 1.65m (2nd A) and in the Javelin, 48.39m (1st A).

On the track in the 100m Lee Lovelock recorded 12.1sec (3rd A) with Carl Rendora closing in a time of 11.40sec (2nd B). They both later ran the 200m with Lee clocking 24.2sec (3rd A) and Carl 24.4sec (3rd B) in their respective races. Carl had earlier competed in the Long Jump recording 4.76m (5th A).
In the 800m Ashley Mildenhall recorded 2.00min (1st A) and Para Olympian Tim Prendergast ran 2.02min (1st B). Ashley was later to compete in the 400m with a time of 51.4sec (1st B) with Chris Vickers 51.7sec (2nd A). 

In the 3000m steeplechase Harold Wyber ran a solid race with a time of 10.53min (4th A) and the 5000m saw Jamie Nunn finish in 15.55min (3rd A) while Andrew Clare ran 16.48min for (2nd B). Dan Agustus recorded 4.14min (3rd A) in the 1500m, with track debutant Clinton Ruthven running a solid 4.39min (3rd B).

Woodford's tiring athletes dug deep and finished 3rd in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
