There was a huge battle for Woodford's young athletes to remain in the Premier Division of the UK Young Athletes League in their final match at Ashton track on Sunday. By finishing 3rd and beating Cambridge Harriers they will almost certainly have done this when the final scores come in.

In the men under 17 class there were many notable performances, with grade 1 performances from Yousef Zatat in the discus with 42.64m, Tom Richards in the  javelin with 51.60m into a stiff headwind and Peter Kirabo 2nd in the triple jump with 13.39m. Yousef also won the B javelin with 41.59m and Peter also achieved a grade 2 performance in winning the U17 high jump with 1.80m.

There was a fine, unexpected win from Ben Phillips in the 400m hurdles in 59.06 sec.

Austin Joseph achieved two 2nd places with 23.07 sec in the 200m and 51.07 sec in the 400m, while further 2nd places were achieved by Harry Clarke in the hammer with 45.06m and Dan Yaxley in the 1500m steeplechase with 5min 01.3 secs.

In the class for Boys under 15 there were good performances from Keira McCook, 3rd in the 200m in 24.32 secs, James Stockings, 2nd in the 1500m in 4 mins 39.1 secs, and Roman Michael-Percil 2nd in the long jump with 5.24m.

The team of Tom Larkin, Peter Kirabo, Austin Joseph and Ben Phillips won the under 17 4 x 400m relay, and Keira McCook, Charlie Breff, Kyle Jervier and Roman Michael-Percil won the under 15 4 x 100m relay.

The under 17 women also had a good day’s athletics with wins from Rachel Dean in the triple jump with a grade one performance of 10.94m and Ashley Robertson in the pole vault with 2.70m, with Rachel also coming 2nd in the 80m hurdles in 12.4 secs.

2nd places were achieved by Kate Stockings in the 800m with 2 min 32.4 secs, Lauren Freeman in the 3000m in 13 min 0.1 secs, and Hollie Pattie-Bellili in the 300m hurdles in 47.6 secs, with Sophie Fuhr running well to take 2nd in the B race in 48.4 sec. Hollie also came 2nd in the high jump with 1.40m.

Georgina Ferrari won the 800m for girls under 15 with 2 min. 27.9 secs, while there were wins for Chelsea Ives, Sophie Fuhr, Rachel Dean and Hollie Pattie-Bellili in the 4 x 300m relay for women under 17 and Chloe Michael, Kumi Fawole, Ebony Bob-Sample and Georgina Ferrari in the 4 x 100m relay for girls under 15.

In the class for girls under 13, Maddie Solof won the high jump with 1.30m and came 2nd in the 70m hurdles in 12.80 secs. There were also 2nd places for Rachel Oke-Duke in the 75m with 10.8 secs, Georgina Maltese with 4 min 20.8 secs in the 1200m, and Tobi Akinfenwa in the 150m with 20.7 secs.
