Trent Park Chingford League: Young Athletes

Our runners were well represented in the Chingford League Young Athlete races at Trent Park on Saturday. The good turnout yielded more promising results and for the U15 Girls put a hand firmly on the team trophy with the final positions to be decided at the relays in a few weeks time.

Senior Results (Races won by our Daniel Agustus and Linda Jackson)

Heavy rain during the preceding week and the hard overnight frost resulted in a mix of ankle-deep muddy slop and sheets of ice, particularly on the shaded parts of the far side of the course. With the steep hill to be negotiated when returning to the finish area, the unanimous verdict was that the course was tough but a proper cross country test.

The U13s race was won by Orion’s Georgia Tuckfield who was 19 seconds clear of the first boy home. Our first two were again, Daniel Rowden and Perry Rowan, with Daniel this week taking the honours by 5 seconds as these two finished 3rd and 4th boys. We fielded five U13 Girls; Alicia McArdell again showing great consistency and also the desire to challenge the front runners before wisely leaving the much stronger Georgia Tuckfield lead the race home. Alicia finished a creditable 5th, 33 seconds ahead of Amy Kibblewhite in 8th who had a fine first outing for the club and Billie Bradley (13th), our other debutant Laura Barritt (19th) and Issy Bedeau (21st) also soldiered round.

The mixed U15/17 race also produced some fine runs; Sam Benge (u17M) was our first runner home for 6th place in the U17M race.  The U15G trio of Holly Bedeau, Isobel Moss and Stephanie Smith nabbed 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively in the U15G race to put the team 10 points clear of the Victoria Park team in the overall rankings whilst Holly’s finish moved her up to 1st place in the season long competition; a deserved placing for a runner who has looked progressively stronger and more confident as the season has progressed. So with seven of our U15G runners in the rankings, we will need all hands on deck to preserve these positions at the end of the season.
