Other T & F Updates 19th April
A few WGwEL senior atheltes were also in action over the weekend. Highlights included, a 3000m s/ch victory for Youcef Abdi in the Australian Championships, and a 400m personal best for Joice Maduaka in the US.
Competing at Perth in the Australian Championships, Manchester Commonwealth Games 1500m bronze medalist and Bejing Olympic steeplechase 6th placer Youcef Abdi comfortably won his national 3000m s/ch title, clocking 8m36.63 secs. However he has not yet been named in the Australian team for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, still needing the Australian qualifying standard this season ( "A" 8m27.00 secs, "B" 8m 32.00 secs ). Competing in Auburn, Alabama, in the US, Joice Maduaka, competed over-distance in a 400m event and recorded a personal best of 55.07 secs. Also in the US, at the Mt Sac relays at Walnut, California, Felicity Milton made her track debut over 10,000m placing 5th in 34m17.71 secs. Closer to home, Christian North cleared 4.82m in the pole vault at the Bath Open, and Kim Murray cleared 5.78m in the long jump at the same meeting. The day after running in the National Road Relay Championships, Dianna Kennedy raced over 400mH at Yate, recording 78.10 secs, and HCA member Jo Ryan recorded 25.37 secs and 56.06 secs for 200m and 400m at Lee Valley.
