Further T and F Updates (updated)

In addition to the Essex County Championships, WGwEL athletes were competing in other county championships, and overseas at the weekend. Beijing Olympic Decathlon representative Dan Awde opened his season with a solid showing at the IAAF Multistars meeting in Desenzano del Gardo in Italy.

Dan Awde placed 7th in this regular early season multi-events meeting, scoring 7616 points, 114 points shy of the UKA "B" standard for this year's European Championships in Barcelona. Dan's individual marks were 100m, 10.94 secs (-0.1); LJ 6.93m (-1.4); SP, 13.13m; HJ 1.89m; 400m, 47.73 secs; 110mH 14.69 secs (0.0); PV 4.65m; JT 48.63m; 1500m 4m31.18 secs. Also in action overseas and opening her season was Elaine O'Neil, who placed 4th over 100m in Pavia, Italy with 11.86 secs., with Francis Smith also opening his season at the same meeting, placing 3rd over 400mH with 53.39 secs.

Closer to home, at the Middlesex Championships at Barnet Corthall, junior international Junior Ejehu competed in the senior sprint events, placing 5th in the 100m with 10.86 secs (+0.9) after qualifying with 10.78 secs w (+3.1), and later placed 3rd over 200m with a season's best of 21.65 secs w ( +2.9). Jason Greenidge recorded 11.09 secs in the 100m heats. Chris Symonds took the 1500m title with 4m13.96 secs, and there were silver medals for Stephanie Aneto in the triple jump with 12.10m and Bertie Powell, suffering from a stomach upset, with 16m01.07 secs over 5000m.

At the Surrey Championships there was a fine personal best in the long jump from Ezekiel Ewolu who took that title with 7.57m (+0.7), and Emeka Udechuku took the shot title with 16.43m, whilst Ayamba Akim placed 2nd in the women's high jump with 1.70m, and there was also silver for Azaria Francis in the 100m with 12.39 secs. Competing the Bucks and Oxon championships at Oxford, Mark Dry set a CBP to win the hammer with a season's best of 70.18m, whiltst at Edinburgh Andy Frost went a little further with his best throw for 3 years as he won with 70.63m.  In the Hampshire championships there was also a silver for Dan Bray in the 400mH with 55.21 secs. At the Suffolk Championships Matt Barnes-Smith picked up two titles, the 1500m with 3m59.8 secs, and the 3000m with a solo 8m32.3 secs. In the Kent Championships at Asford, $00m international, Nick Leavey moved down to 200m where he placed 4th in 21.65 secs w (+3.7), whilst there were wins for Stuart Harvey in the javelin with 64.40m and for HCA member, Martin Lloyd in teh hugh jump with 2.05mm

In action during last week was Tom Norman who threw a season's best of 53.74m discus at the Watford Open Meerting, and Dan Agustus who recorded 4m11.7secs for 4th over 1500m, and 8m57.3 secs to win over 3000m at Kingston.
