Scanlan 8th in European Youths

Representing Ireland in the European Youth Olympic Trials in Moscow, Paul Scanlan finished 8th in Sunday's final of the 400m, in 48.94secs. It was a high-class race in which it took 47.21 to win bronze. Paul, coached by Richard Thurston, 5 of whose athletes recorded PBs at Watford this week, ran 48.99 to qualify from his heat.

The event is for athletes aged 16 or 17 on 31 December 2010. Paul is 17 next month. The trial is being used to select the Europe team to contest the first Youth Olympics in Singapore in August.
