Indoor Round-Up
WGwEL athletes were in indoor action over the weekend around the country at Cardiff, Loughborough, Lee Valley and Glasgow. Amongst several useful performances there was a successful return to hurdles action for Beijing Olympic 100mH finalist Sarah Claxton. Competing at the Loughborough University Open Meeting, Sarah raced twice over 60mH. In the first race she recorded 8.31 secs where she placed 2nd to Jessica Ennis, and then improved to 8.21 sec in her second race, moving to 4th on this season's UK indoor rankings.
Also in action at Loughborough was 2009 European Junior 100m bronze medalist Eugene Ayanful, who recorded 6.93 secs for 3rd in his race. Jason Greenidge recorded times of 7.21 secs and 7.16 secs at the same meeting.
Maria Seager was in Pole Vault action at the Welsh Championships in Cardiff which she won with a leap of 3.90m. Sunday saw the first day of the London Indoor Games at Lee Valley, with the younger athletes in action. In the U/17 girls 300m, Hannah Pattie-Belleli recorded 45.92 secs, and Georgina Ferrari 46.94 secs. In 60m action was U/17 Olaoluwa Abioden who recorded times of 7.76 secs and 7.79 secs, whilst in the U/15 girls race Chelsea Kwakye, sister of Olympic 100m finalist Jeanette, recorded times of 8.22 secs and 8.35 secs. Also on Sunday at the Scottish National Open Meeting in Glasgow, Kevin Kane was 3rd over 800m with 1m55.73 secs, with Francis Smith winning over 60mH with 8.34 secs
