Essex Indoor Championships
WGwEL athletes completed their indoor season at the Essex Championships held at Lee Valley over the weekend. There were gold medals for Omololu Abiodun, Joseph Dewer and Peter Kirabo, amongst several other fine performances.
U/20 sprinter, Omololu Abiodun who has made considerable progress during the indoor season, continued his fine form as he took the Essex 200m U/20 title in 22.22 secs. He had earlier picked a silver in the 60m, equalling his personal best of 7.09 secs. Woodford's other gold medals both came in the triple jump, and both with personal best performances. In the men's U/17 event Joseph Dewer took the title with 12.45m, whilst in the U/20 event Peter Kirabo won with 13.89m. Joseph also picked up two further medals, 2nd in the long jump with 6.06m, and 3rd over 60m with 7.24 secs, having recorded a personal best to qualify from his semi-final with 7.15 secs. Joseph's younger brother, Shayne was also a medal winner, 3rd in the U/13 boys 60mH with 10.84 secs. Other Woodford athletes to win medals were, Hollie Pattie-Belleli, 2nd in the U/20 long jump with 5.09m, Dan Yaxley, 2nd in the U/20 400m with a personal best of 52.32 secs, Colin Wint 3rd in the U/20 200m with 23.3 secs, Tyler Brown 3rd in the U/17 200m with 23.77 secs, and Ryan Dune, 3rd in the U/17 1500 with 4m33.82 secs.
Also in action were Karl Jervier, 4th in the U/17 60m with 7.29 secs, Oluoluma Abiodun with 7.71 secs in the heats of that event, Hasif Bedford 4th in the U/20 200m with 23.52 secs, Hannah Pattie-Bellili 5th in the U/17 TJ with 9,54m, and Georgina Ferrari who recorded 45.72 secs in the U/17 300m heats.
