Track and Field Round-Up

A handful of Woodford athletes were in Track and Field action over the weekend. Whilst the indoor season concluded with the World Masters Championships where three medals were won by Bernadine Pritchett and another by Keith Newton, there was also some early outdoor action both at home and in the US.

Competing at Jyvaskyla, Finland, in the World Masters Indoor Championships, Bernadine Pritchett gained three medals. In the W45 3000m Bernadine picked up gold as she won with 10m39.80 secs and also placed 3rd in each of the W45 800m and 1500m, recording times of 2m26.67 secs and 5m00.79 secs. In the M40 triple jump there was also a bronze medal for Keith Newton as he placed 3rd with a season's best 13.47m.

Closer to home, in the mid-week Watford Open Meeting, first year U/20 Matt McLaughlin placed 2nd over 1500m in a personal best of 3m57.84 secs. At the Crawley Open meeting, hurdles specialist Dan Davis raced over 200m and placed 2nd with 23.22 secs (-0.5), and HCA member Matt Morsia recorded 1.72 secs over 100m and won both the LJ with 6.63m and TJ with 13.83m.

In the US at the Florida Relays, Tiffany Porter opened her outdoor season with a victory over 100mH in 12.96 secs (-0.5), whilst at Lowell, MA, Alex Cornwell represented Birmingham University at the George Davis Invitational and placed 2nd over 1500m with 3m58.93 secs. In Los Angeles, Jess Sparke and Tara Bird interrupted their warm weather training schedules to compete at the Tony "Tiny" Lester Classic and Jess placed 4th over 800m with 2m12.24 secs and Tara placed 2nd over 1500m with 4m36.71secs.
