Several WGEL athletes were in action at the Bedford International Games on Monday. There were also Woodford athletes in other County Championships, middle distance news from Ireland and an encouraging 200m performance from Sam Watts in the US.
Woodford sprinters at Bedford were led by Jordan Kirby-Polidore who in the 200m placed 2nd with 21.22 secs w (+2.6), and later had a rare outing over 400m, winning the "B" race with 48.16 secs. Over 100m, Jason Greenidge recorded his fastest for some time with 10.93 secs (+1.6) having run 11.11(+0.6) in the first round. Stephanie Gaynor raced twice over 100mH, recording 13.99 secs (+0.5) and 14.08 secs w (+2.1).
In the field Ezekiel Ewolu was in long jump action where he placed 2nd with 7.60m (+1.1), whilst in the women's triple jump, Hannah Frankson just got the better of Zainab Ceesay, placing 4th with 12.75m (-1.1) to Zainab's 5th with 12.69m ((+0.5). Stephanie Aneto was 12th with 11.82m (+1.5). In the high jump Ayamba Akim was 5th with 1.69m. Andy Frost won the hammer with 69.92m and Tom Norman the discus with 54.05. In the women's discus Hollie Redman was 6th with 41.01m, and in the men's U/20 shot Youcef Zatat placed 2nd with 16.90m.
At the Middlesex Championships, there was a long jump gold medal for Adrian Stamp with 6.81m (w?), a triple jump gold for Sayo Ojo with 13.45m (w/), and a silver in the women's event for Stephanie Aneto with 12.24m (w?). Bertie Powell picked up bronze in the 5km with 16m03.51 secs, and in the 100m heats, Jason Greenidge recorded 11.18 secs (=1.3) and Justin Duru 11.23 secs (+1.3), as well as 22.9 secs ht ( w 9+2.6) in the 200m heats. At the Yorkshire Championships there was a shot silver for HCA man Scott Lincoln with 16.24m
Competing in the Irish Milers'Club Open Meeting at Greystone IRL, Connor Bradley placed 2nd over 1500m with 3m47.60 secs, and Pajo Hamilton finished 3rd in 1m53.93 secs. A little further overseas, in the US at Forth Worth Texas, Sam Watts raced over 100m and 200m. Over 100m he recorded 10.66 secs (w?) for 3rd and over 200m 20.93 secs for 2nd (w?). The results have omitted the wind readings and have been reported as 0.0, which if confirmed will constitute a legal 200m pb for Sam
