Track & Field Round-Up

Ahead of the upcoming World Championships there were encouraging performances from Woodford athletes Tiffany Porter and Shana Cox at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games in the London Olympic Stadium over the weekend. There were also other Woodford athletes in action, including in the Irish Championships and at the LICC meeting. Racing over 100mH, Tiffany Porter who finished 5th in that event two years ago at the Daegu World Championships finished 2nd to Olympic Champion, Sally Pearson Australia as she clocked 12.76 secs (0.0). Shana Cox, selected as part of the GB & NI 4x400 squad for Moscow recorded a season's best to place 4th with 51.12 secs in London.

In Ireland at the All-Ireland Championships, David McCarthy finished a close 2nd over 1500m with 3m44.73 secs, with Conor Bradley 5th in 3m47.79 secs. In the 800m heats, Pajo Hamilton clocked 1m55.07 secs. At Copthall at the LICC meeting, of note was a a 16.16m shot performance from Anthony Oshodi, whilst with the junior implement Youcef Zatat put 17.05m and also threw 0.83m with the junior discus., with Chris Linque reaching 46.45m in the senior. Hollie Redman through 43.75m in the women's discus and also 10.07m in the shot. Adrian Stamp won the long jump with 6.89m, and U//20 Christman Ihuoma reached 13.04m in the triple jump. Over 100m Jordan Kirby-Polidore recorded 10.98 secs (+1.0) and 11.12 secs (-1.4), and Justin Duru 11.17 secs (+1.0) as well as 22.94 secs (0.0) over 200m. HCA member Jo Ryan recorded a season's best over 400m of 56.9 secs.
