Track & Field Round-Up

WGEL athletes were involved in several meetings over the last few days. These included the British Athletics Jumps and Throws Meeting, where there were victories for Tom Norman and Andy Frost, the Lee Valley sprints meeting, and BMC Meetings at Manchester and Eltham.The latter saw an 800m personal best from Matt McLaughlin. There was also a medal for Stephanie Howe in the South of England age group championships.

Competing at the BMC Meeting at Eltham last Wednesday evening Matt McLaughlin placed 2nd over 800m recording a personal best of 1m48.97 sec, as he closed in on Chris Reynold's U/20 Club Record of 1m48.3 secs. Matt was back in action on Saturday in the BMC Grand Prix at Stretford, and in windy conditions placed 6th over 1500m with 3m44.66 secs. Ahead of Matt in 3rd was David McCarthay with 3m43.31 secs. Other Woodford athletes at Stretford were Jordan Donnelly who was 4th in the "C" 1500m with 3m56.97 secs, and Emily Moss, 8th in the "C" 800m with 2m17.36 secs. The Throws and jumps meeting took place over the weekend at Bedford, and Andy Frost won the hammer with 68.96m and Tom Norman the discus with 54.64. Behind Tom, in 5th was Chris Linque with 46.88m, and in the women's discus Hollie Redman was 8th with 42.11m Also in hammer, but with the junior implement Harry Clarke was 2nd with 60.80m. In the long jump junior, Joseph Dewar was 2nd in his pool with 6.87m, and in the women's pole vault HCA member Louise Shortland cleared 3.50m.

Of the several WGEL sprinters at Lee Valley last Wednesday evening, Omolulu Abiodun was the fastest clocking 10.76 secs (+1.8) over 100m. Andrew Lastic recorded 11.00 secs w (+3.4) and a personal best over 200m of 22.44 secs (+1.4). There was a season's best for junior, Pamela Milla with 13.01 secs 9+1.9) as she won her 100m race. Others in action were Esther Tewogbade (U/13) with 13.40 secs (+1.9) over 100m , and also 29.95 secs (+1.8) over 200m; Kyesha Robinson (U/13) with 14.08 secs (+1.9) and 28.47 secs (+1.8); Jordan Adesanya (U/15) with 12.29 secs (+1.6) and 25.40 secs 9+1.8); Brandon Shibchurn (U/15) 11.87 secs (+4.4); Olauluwa Ogunade (U/15) 12.77 secs w (+4.6); Alan James 12.46 secs w (+2.5) and 25.50 secs w (+3.1), Matthew Persaud 11.95 secs w (+3.5); Mollie Gardner (U/13) 28.65 secs (+1.8) and Katie Robinson (U/13) 30.55 secs (+1.1).

Competing at Ashford in the South of England U?15 Championships, Stephanie Howe was 3rd in the hammer with 45.19m, and just missing out on a medal was Brandon Shibchurn who was 4th over 200m with 24.90 secs (-2.10, and also 6th over 100m with 12.60 secs (-3.3)
