Track & Field Round-Up

WGEL athletes were in action at several meetings over the last few days, including at the CAU championships at Bedford, which brought medals for Anthony Oshodi, Jordan Kirby-Polidore, and Chris LInque, at Watford where there was a personal best for James Stockings, and at the LICC where there was news of a fine hammer performance from Stephanie Howe.

The Inter-County Championships were held at Bedford over this last weekend, and several Woodford athletes represented their Counties. Anthony Oshodi's medal came in the shot, where he placed 2nd with 16.40m, ahead of HCA member Scott Lincoln who was 3rd with 15.94m. Another field medal went to Chris Linque in the discus where he was 3rd with 47.09m. Others in field event action, were Hollie Redman 6th in the women's discus with 42.89m, Kitty Eleyae, 5th in the long jump with 5.72m (+1.7), Peter Clarke 8th in the hammer with 51.63m, and from HCA members where in the Pole Vault where Dan Gardner won with 4.95m and Louise Shortland placed 3rd in the women's with 3.50m. and in the high jump where Mo Sasegbon was 2nd with 1.74m, and also 6th in the 100mH with 14.45 secs w (+2.7). Jordan-KIrby-Polidore's medal came in a good quality 200m where he was 3rd with 20.88 secs (-1.3). Omolulu Abiodun recorded 21.84 secs (-1.4) to place 4th in his heat. HCA member Ryan McKinlay was 2nd in the 3000m s/ch with 9m22.45 secs.

At the recent Watford Open Meeting, junior, James Stockings raced over 3000m and placed 5th in the "B" race with a personal best of 8m27.29 secs. Behind James, Tony Russell also recorded a personal best of 9m13.25 secs.Over 1500m Bernadine Pritschett (V45) recorded a season's best of 4m57.98 secs to place 2nd in the "D" race, and there was another personal best from U/15 Owen Armstrong who clocked 4m45.19 secs. Adam Firth recorded 4m20.69 secs. At the LICC meeteing at Copthall on Saturday, Justin Duru raced twice over 100m and recorded 1.20 secs (+1.7) and 11.21 secs (+1.4). Fergus Harford threw 35.03m in the hammer and 18.44m in the discus. In the women's hammer there was a fine performance from U/15 Stephanie Howe who reached a personal best of 52.74m to move her to the top of this year's UK rankings for that age group.

Competing overseas, in Antwerp, Elaine O'Neil raced over 100m and recorded 12.19 secs (-0.5), and Moscow relay medalist Shana Cox raced over 400m in Linz where she placed 3rd with 52.01 secs
