Jeanette Kwakye
WGEL's Jeanette Kwakye has announced her retirement from competitive athletics. Jeanette, who has been a life long member of the Club, originally joined Essex Ladies as a young athlete, later winning the English Schools U/15 100m Championship at Sheffield in 1997. When a junior, Jeanette served on the Club's Committee as a junior representative. In her senior competitive career, Jeanette placed 2nd over 60m in the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in 2008, and later that year made the Olympic Games 100m final in Beijing, where she placed 6th. Despite making the World Championships semi-final in Daegu in 2011, sadly injury problems prevented Jeanette from enjoying such success again. We wish Jeanette well in her future endeavours.
