Athletics Weekly honours Bertie Powell
This week's edition of Athletics Weekly devotes a page to Bertie Powell's recent feat of scoring in the men's Metropolitan League cross country team (first 12 club men home) for the 50th consecutive race, stretching back to 2003.
As journalist Will Cockerell points out, "Of course, he hasn't avoided injury and illness, he's just got out there and raced anyhow." Bertie's coach Mick Woods, who has brought through so many athletes to represent Great Britain in recent years, describes him as "loyal", "extremely responsive to the training" and "a session leader".
Next week's edition of Athletics Weekly will cover another club member, Olympian Daniel Awde, and, specifically, his switch this year from his Olympic event, the decathlon, to the 400m flat.
