Victoria Park Chingford League - Young Athletes
On a very blustery day at Victoria Park, just the solitary Woodford Green representative of Joe Geller (U13B) was on the start line for the Chingford League road race. Unfortunately our other Chingford league stalwart, Edie Preece, had to pull out of the U15/17W race, injured following a footballing knock earlier in the week.
A timely gap in the wind and rain at 1.45pm allowed the 3.1km race round two road laps of the lower park to get underway on time. Orion's James Woods and the Enfield and Haringay pair of Joe Rowson and Luke Bluemink who have been Joe's chief competition during the season, were present to present to push him to the last. Joe took the lead at the first corner and kept his lead until the finishing line by which time he had a 7 second gap on Rowson.
His victory in Victoria Park means he has won the U13B Chingford League championship and he will look forward to picking up the trophy at the presentation following the Chingford relays on 1st March. It would be great for the club if we could at least get a full team of 4 U13Bs out for the cross country relays (and some more besides...).
