Indoor Round-Up

 

Several WGEL athletes were in action this weekend both at home and overseas. Tiffany Porter, Shana Cox and Dan Awde were in action atthe Sainsbury's British Grand Prix in Birmingham, and amongst other results there was a season's best from Sam Watts.

At Birmingham in the televised Sainsbury's British Grand Prix, Both Shana Cox and Dan Awde competed in their respective "B" 400m events. Shana had been disqualified in her her heat of the Brtiish Championships, and not contesting that final, saw he relegated to the "B" race in the Grand Prix, which she nevertheless won in a season's best of 52.93 secs. Dan Awde had finished 3rd in those British Championships, and on this occasion was 4th in the "B" 400m recording a marginal season's best of 46.89 secs. Tiffany Porter who did not compete in the British Championships, and who had struggled when hitting a hurdle at the Glasgow International, was in much better form, placing 2nd and recording a season's best of 8.07 secs.

Sam Watts was competing for his University, TCU at the Tyson Invitational at Fayetteville, Arizona in the US, where he won over 200m in a time of 21.24 secs, moving him to 4th on this season's UK rankings. Also competing in the US was Alex Cornwell, where in Alberquerque, New Mexico, he raced over both 800m and 1 mile. In the former he placed 4th with 1m54.21 secs, an the latter 2nd with 4m08.80 secs. Competing in the BIrmingham Games, Emily Moss raced over 1500m where she recorded 4m46.76 secs.

 

Some notable marks not reported from the previous weekend, included those at the Scottish Universities Championships, where Tom Hoilligan was 2nd over 60m with 7.06 secs, and won over 200m with 21.73 secs. In the 400m there Ewan Dyer placed 4th with 50.78 secs. In the Essex U/20 Championships Joseph Dewar won over 60m with 6.82 secs, having recorded 6.78 secs in both his heat and semi-final.
