Weekend T & F action concentrated on the County Championships, and highlights from the Essex Championships included wins for Sam Watts and Dan Awde. Overseas there were fine performances from Shana Cox and Tiffany Porter, and a number of other good performances were reported from meetings around the country.
Sam Watts won a close and good quality 100m with 10.53 secs w (+3.9), with Eugene Ayanful 3rd in 10.59 secs w (+3.9). Dan Awde was in good form winning over 110mH with 14.14 secs w (+3.3)., and the Pole vault with 5.05m. Dan was 2nd in the shot with a personal best of 13.36m, and long jumped 6.85 w (+2.5), also for 2nd, and placed 3rd in the discus with 42.92m. That discus produced a Woodford clean sweep with Devon Douglas winning with 48.49m, from Chris Linque with 44.81m. Devon also won the shot, ahead of Dan with 13.86m.There was also a win in the U/17 shot from Hugh Williams with 13.01m, and in the U/20 event where Youcef Zatat won with 14l.66m. Youcef also picked up silver in the discus with a personal best of 46.06m. In the senior women's event, Hollie Redman also threw a personal best, of 43.02m to place second, whilst in the U/20 event Victoria Onekye was 2nd with 31.46m to add to her silver medal in the hammer with 35.08. Hollie Pattie-Belleli was a winnerin the U/20 LJ with 5.39m w (+2.5). Hollie was also 2nd in the 100mH with 14.27 secs w (+2.7), and 3rd in the U/20 200m with 26.41 secs (-1.3). Other long jump medlas came from Mitchell Jarvis who won the senior men's event with 6.86m w (+2.1) and George Hamilton second in the U/17 event with 6.68m w (+2.8).
In the U/20 1500m, James Stockings was a good 2nd in personal best of 4m02.97secs. There were other middle distance medals, over 800m where in the U/15 event Daniel Rowden was 2nd with 2m06.80 secs, and in the U/15 3000m where Perry Ronan was 2nd with 9m10.40 secs. In the women's 200m, Katie Skelding was 3rd with 25.82 secs (-2.4), having qualified with 25.78 secs (-0.1), just behind HCA member Jo Ryan with 25.71 secs (-2.4) (25.45 secs heat).
Other performances included, Monica Griffith, 4th U/15 200m 29.53 secs; Tyler Bown 5th U/20 400m 53.00 secs; Jodie Radcliff 8th U/15 800m 2m35.85 secs ( 2m33.04 secs ht); Olivia Hounsome 5th U/13 800m 2m40.36 secs (2m38.81 secs ht);Dan Yaxley 5th 1500m 4m09.65 secs; Jamie Numm 7th 1500m 4m14.72 secs and 4th 5000m, 15m30.41 secs; Angus Holford 6th 5000m, 15m44.95 secs; Amelia Barrett 5th U/17 1500m , 4m53.10 secs; Jessiac Burgess 7th U/17 1500m, 5m02.39 secs; Alicia McArdell 5th U/15 1500m, 5m06.74 secs; Ebony Bobb-Semple 5th U/17 LJ 4.88m (+1.5); Stephanie Howe 6th U/15 shot 7.65m and also 6th in the discus,19.34m; Daniel Francis 4th U/17 discus 37.65m; David Peddle 8th U/17 discus 30.42m; Hugh Williams 10th U/17 discus 28.23m, and 5th U/17 hammer 37.19m, and Fergus Harford 5th senior hammer 37.93m
At Kingston in the Surrey Championships, there were wins for Ezekiel Ewulo in the long jump with 7.59m (+2.0) and Tom Norman in the discus with 53.41m. In the women's 100m Azaria Francis was 2nd with 12.38 secs (-1.7). At Mile End in the Middlesex Championships, Bertie Powell was 3rd in the 5000m with 15m21.27 secs, and Jason Greenidge was in action in the heats of the 100m and 200m recording 11.44 secs and 23.27 secs w (+2.1). At the Kent Championships, Stuart Havey opened his season with a useful 64.90m for 2nd in the javelin whilst Sylvester Juwe was 4th over 400m with 51.75 secs, and Mike Baker ran in the 200m heats and recorded 23.30 secs (-2.1). In the Scottish district Championships at Edinburgh, Francis Smith had a comfortable with over 400mH with 55.69 secs, whilst at Exeter in the Devon Championships, Simon Bennett opened his javelin season encouragingly, placing 2nd with 63.82m.
Overseas, in Montegeron, France, Sarah Claxton placed 3rd over 100mH with 13.31 secs (+0.4), whilst in Hoorn, Netherlands , Dan Davis raced over 200m and 110mH and recorded 22.28 sesc (0.0) for 4th and 14.58 secs (0.6) also for 4th. In the US at a meeting in Atlanta, Shana Cox got closer to the Olympic A standard (51.55 secs) as she placed 3rd over 400m with 51.66 secs. In Puerto Rica, Tiffany Porter won over v100mH with 12.79 secs (-1.2).
