Several WGEL athletes were in action indoors over the weekend. Performances were led by fine 1500m efforts for David McCarthy and Conor Bradley who recorded a pb as did Jack Lochans in the HJ, and a useful 200m from Sam Watts.
Derry based Conor Bradley raced at the Athletics Ireland Open meeting in Athlone where he placed 4th in a high quality 1500m, marginally improving his personal best to 3m43.37 secs. Ahead of Conor in 2nd was Irish member, David McCarthy who clocked 3m39.14 secs. Also in action at Athlone was Pajo Hamilton who recorded 4m03.90secs over 1500m. Jack Lochans' personal best came at the Scottish Indoor Championships, where in the high jump, he placed 3rd with 2.09m, improving enormously on his previous best, set just a few weeks ago of 2.03m. Francis Smith also picked up a medal in those Championships, placing 2nd over 60mH with 8.49 secs. Sam Watts, currently studying at TCU in the U.S. raced at the New Mexico Team Invitational, and after being disqualified for a false start over 60m, later recorded 21.34 secs over 200m. Another racing in the same meeting in the US, was Alex Cornwell who was 5th over 800m with 1m56.59 secs.
Sprinting at the Eton Open meeting was Jason Greenidge who recorded 7.14 secs over 60m, and at Newham Jason recorded 7.16 secs, and U/11 Daniel Tewogbade recorded 8.95 secs.
At Lee Valley, U/17 Shayne Dewar raced over 60m and recorded 7.71secs and 7.78 secs and in the U/15's Jermaine Brown recorded 7.71 secs and 7.78 secs, with Kelechi Ojako timed at 7.92 secs and 7.87 secs. Over 800m Kyle Lundie recorded 2m 28.40 secs.
There was also news from Australia where Lachie Chisholm, injured for the last two seasons raced over 1500m and recorded 3m56.44 secs in Sydney
