WGEL early season T&F performances over the weekend were led by athletes currently in the US, with good marks recorded by Tiffany Porter, Dan Awde, Mark Dry, and Alex Cornwell. Several others were in action closer to home.

Tiffany Porter was in good form as she raced at the Tom Jones Memorial Meeting at Gainsville, Florida, winning the 100mH in 12.81 secs (+1.0) a time that places her 3rd= on this year's world rankings. Also racing in Gainsville was Dan Awde, who comfortably won the "B" 400m by almost a full second in 46.40 secs. Mark Dry competed at the Mt Sac Relays in Walnut, California where he placed 3rd with 72.12 m. Also at Walnut was HCA member Jo Ryan who raced over 200m and 400m with times of 26.05 secs w (+2.8) and 60.61 secs. Racing at Azusa in California, Alex Cornwell placed 9th in a good standard 1500m recording his 3rd fastest time ever of 3m44.19 secs.

 

At Glasgow, Jack Lochans opened his outdoor season in the HJ with 2.05m, and despite falling Francis Smith managed to record 16.05 secs (-2.3) in the 110mH. HCA athlete, U/20, Jack Lawrie recorded 54.75 secs over 400mH. At Braintree, in the SAL a limited WGEL contingent competed, with some decent performances in the throws, led by Tom Norman's 55.03m to win the discus. Devon Douglas won the "B" event with 47.72m, and also the shot with 13.23m. Devon also threw 33.25m in the JT. David Peddle recorded 35.92m in the JT and also 9.28m in the SP, whilst in the hammer, Harry Clarke with 55.75m just got the better of brother Peter Clarke with 55.00m, with Fergus Harford (V45) recording 33.49m. In the women's events, Hollie Redman was in good form, winning the discus with 42.88m, the shot with 11.12m and setting a pb in the hammer of 40.06m. Becky Knapp won the "B" hammer with 39.05m and in the javelin Eike Vardji threw 29.85m. Keith Newton (V45) placed 2nd in the TJ with 12.38m, and on the track, an unwell Paul Scanlan recorded 11.5 secs (100m) with Alan James recording 12.5 secs (100m) and also 4.20m (LJ). Joe Everitt recorded 16m54.0 secs over 5000m.

 

At Lee Valley on Sunday at the LICC meeting, U/20 Edward Yamah recorded 11.06 secs w (+2.8) over 100m with U/15 Brandon Scibchurn recording a pb of 11.83 secs (+1.4). Over 400m, U/17 Rosie Poole recorded 64.70 secs, and over 800m U/15, Isabella Hoy a personal best of 2m22.52 secs. In the LJ U/13 Ella Wigul recorded 4.01m (+0.4).
